Custom Packaging for Retail Displays
For manufacturers of fixtures and displays for retail, you have unique considerations. Your displays are typically shipped fully assembled or with minimal assembly, which means two things: the product itself can be large and have a larger weight, and it’s extremely delicate, with pieces that can break off in transit. You also have another unique challenge: while you may be shipping multiple displays throughout the year, you’re often not shipping the same configuration each time.
This all means that packaging can’t be a generic solution. A simple corrugated cardboard box and packing peanuts won’t cut it. You need a custom packaging solution.
At Foam Industries, custom is our bread and butter. A unique product needs a unique packaging solution. For most fixture and display manufacturers, a combination of foam packaging parts is the best option for protecting your products. Foam is lightweight yet offers extreme protection, and can be easily routed to snugly fit around even the most intricate pieces.

Key Types of Foam Packaging for Retail Displays
Each display that you ship will be unique. However, there are a few core types of foam packaging that are ideal for displays. These elements can be customized and routed to fit your specific needs. They also can be nestled inside boxes of any material - corrugated, wood, plastic or metal.
1. Edge Protectors
Edge protectors are exactly what they sound like - they fit over the edges and corners of pieces to provide protection. For retail displays, edge protectors are commonly used on the main display mount itself, as well as any sharp edges on the display. There are a few common types of edge protectors:
- U Channel - Like the name implies, this forms the shape of a “U” when viewed from the side. The indentation within the foam is semi-rigid, to provide a snug fit.
- Tube - This profile is completely round, and can include a small slit. This can be fit around very thin objects to provide cushioning.
- L Shape - As you might have guessed, this looks like an “L” when viewed from the side. This shape helps cradle a product, alongside other foam pieces.
- Block - This is a solid block, typically in a square or rectangular shape. It can be used to further support products inside of a case, or fill gaps for a more secure fit.

2. Custom Case Inserts
Case inserts fit precisely in a box or case, and are custom-routed to provide a snug fit for products in transit. For retail displays, case inserts are ideal for any pieces that need to be assembled and mounted onto the display. A case insert provides the best protection for small, delicate pieces.

3. Wrap Rolls and Sheets
As you may have guessed from the name, foam sheets are on a roll and can be cut to size, which are then wrapped around products. For retail display manufacturers, foam sheets are ideal for any glass or transparent plastic elements. These sheets provide cushioning and shock absorption, without scratching these delicate pieces.
